The comprehensive energy refurbishment of a school building exceeding 5,000 m², originally realized in the early 1990s as an adaptation of a nationwide standard design, provided an opportunity for the architectural repositioning of the building.

The modernization extended beyond thermal insulation and the replacement of fenestration, creating the framework for addressing the building’s most significant architectural shortcomings: the repositioning and redefinition of entrances, the elimination of the lack of transitional spaces, and the renewal of sanitary facilities.

One of the key challenges of the project was the contemporary reinterpretation of the building’s character, defined by its pitched roof and glued red brick cladding. The previously fragmented, underrepresented, and energetically inefficient entrances were transformed into arrival points worthy of a public building, establishing a clear spatial hierarchy.

By eliminating the disused light court connecting the two wings of the building, new usable spaces were created, enabling the formerly spatially separated entrances to be organized into a coherent and transparent spatial sequence that also functions as a central circulation and gathering space.
